Project Goals

Looking for a modern and user-friendly web application to replace their outdated system, Grand River Bank turned to BizStream. Using .NET 5 Vue SPA, BizStream built a custom solution that efficiently handles wire transfers, check logs, Canadian and foreign items, international check origination and deposits, and customized admin settings. The new application streamlines internal operations and enhances productivity, providing Grand River Bank with an effective and reliable solution for its financial needs.

  • Windows Authentication was implemented for user authentication. Our team replicated the roles and permissions from the old application to the new one. To streamline the process, we utilized Active Directory groups that can be easily configured. Additionally, we defined roles and permissions for transaction codes, as each code requires specific permissions to be defined. This approach modernized the process and provided greater flexibility in managing user permissions.
  • .NET 5 Vue.js was utilized for future-proofing the application, given that the previous application was dated. All database interactions were handled using SQL and Entity Framework.
  • Our team recommended moving from an installed application to a web platform for global consistency and administration, enabling check printing abilities to multiple locations instead of only one branch.
  • The wire transfer process was streamlined by implementing a template option, allowing users to bypass filling out repetitive fields such as account and bank information. Instead, users only need to update the transfer amount and purpose line for each transaction. Financial institutions' information can be easily retrieved from a dropdown menu that pulls data from a database. In addition, employees have the option to download PDFs of outgoing wire transfer orders that include customer agreements, signature lines, and a bank use section. The PDFs are dynamically generated, automatically pulling in information such as customer, account, and beneficiary details, providing a convenient and efficient solution for managing wire transfers.
  • Our team implemented several improvements to the Canadians & Foreign Items page. Firstly, we added an alert notification system that notifies the bank when the exchange rate hasn't been updated within a customizable time frame. This enhancement has saved the bank a significant amount of money by eliminating the mistake of not updating the rate on time. Additionally, the system automatically calculates the exchange rate difference based on the check amount indicated and the current exchange rate set in the admin setting. To enhance the accuracy and completeness of the page, we added required fields for users to upload an image of the front and back of the check. This feature has streamlined the check deposit process by providing a complete picture of the check. Lastly, we introduced an option for users to print a customer receipt for their records.
  • The application now offers several new features for writing and documenting cashier’s checks. Users can easily add account types from a dropdown menu, simplifying the process of categorizing checks. Additionally, a 1099 reportable checkbox and a 1099 Determination Form are available to help users easily determine if a check qualifies as 1099. If the user selects options that qualify the check as 1099 reportable, the checkbox will be automatically checked on the main screen. The application also includes OFAC verification and check printing options, adding to the platform's overall functionality.
  • The check log feature of the application now allows users to easily access a database of all checks. With this feature, users can filter the check log by various criteria, including checks that have been printed, reported, transfers associated with the checks, outstanding OFAC, and date.
  • The application's admin settings are now highly customizable and offer a variety of options to choose from. Each option is locked down by role to ensure maximum security. These options include system specs, check specs, stock check, account options, Canadian exchange rate options, OFAC options, 1099 questions, and user PIN reset, among others. Admins with the correct credentials can easily manage these options and make global changes across the application. This functionality provides greater control and flexibility, enabling admins to tailor the application to their specific needs and ensure that security is not compromised.
  • The home screen is completely customizable, allowing admins to post company-wide announcements and events.
  • Location-Aware Printing was introduced, allowing printing to multiple locations based on location, further streamlining the bank's operations.
