Results

FERNO’s web presence was split across six existing websites. The company wanted to bring them all together into one global site, Ferno.com – a website originally built in Kentico. This would enable them to fold all FERNO Group companies, strategic partner companies, and their international location-based websites into a more seamless web experience for their global brand.

They also wanted to address performance issues, enable the website to be used as a sales tool, and empower their teams to more easily manage and update content.

Challenges

  • Due to the way the FERNO site was previously developed, it was a significant undertaking for the BizStream developers to get the site to function properly and use best practices for Kentico MVC.
  • FERNO'S previous site was developed to load the entire site (over 8 MB of content) upon visiting, making the website extremely slow.
  • BizStream needed to rework the architecture in its entirety to address 404-page functionality, lack of domain modeling, improper Web.Config settings, and non-reusable models and controllers.
  • BizStream was tasked with merging five Sitecore sites into an updated Kentico site with MVC architecture and shutting off the old Sitecore installation.

Solutions

To give FERNO a properly working site, BizStream thoroughly assessed the previous Kentico installation. BizStream reviewed the Kentico application components and configurations along with Kentico infrastructure components and configurations. The production database server, Web (IIS) Server, Kentico CMS installation, and many custom settings were also audited. The final solution included:

  • Hosting on Microsoft Azure.
  • Utilizing Deployment Slots on Azure App Services.
  • Utilizing Kentico Search.
  • Leveraging Kentico 12 MVC framework, making it easy for highly configurable pages.
  • Integrating with HubSpot to connect their sales team with customers seeking a quote for equipment and general customer support requests.
  • The site now integrates with SharpSpring, Zoho CRM, Azure, Google Analytics, and Google Tag Manager.
  • Improving content administration interface.
  • 404 pages are customized and URL routing was updated for best practices.
  • Managing 301 redirects in an external configuration file for ease of administration.
  • Adding appropriate page type scoping.
  • Building custom caching strategies for performance.
  • Updating URL routing for best practices.
  • Leveraging JavaScript for customized menus.
  • Removing console.log() functions from front-end JavaScript.
  • Correcting cross-browser style issues.
  • E-commerce functionality serves as a foundation for integration with Stripe for commerce transactions.
  • Pages app and content tree enable multiple regional sites to share some content and have their own unique parts.
  • Global site content managed with built-in translation.
